Spotlight on inflation and interest rate announcements
Recession worries swept across markets last week. In the United States, the broad S&P 500 equity index lost 3.4% between December 2 and December 9, while Sweden’s OMXS30 index of large cap listed stocks closed 0.6% lower. The STOXX Europe 600 index followed a similar pattern, falling by 0.9%.
Not surprisingly, the focus of market attention this week has been on US inflation figures and on several upcoming central bank interest rate announcements.
