Market Outlook: Conflicting signals from the Fed and the debt ceiling battle

Most stock exchanges that we monitor gained ground last week. In the United States, the broad S&P 500 index closed with a 1.65% gain between May 12 and May 19, while Sweden’s OMXS30 large cap index climbed by 2.34%. The Stoxx Europe 600 was up 0.72%. The dominant international news stories in recent days have been the G7 summit in Japan and the US debt ceiling. This week will end with the latest PCE figure, which is the US Federal Reserve’s most important inflation metric.
